Tig welding electrodes are mainly composed of tungsten because of the strength of the hardness as well as the ability to withstand high temperatures. Tig welding electrodes can be made of pure tungsten or combined with certain metals or rare earth oxides.
 
In welding Tig, the electrodes have different diameters and lengths. In selection of electrode must based on welding material, weld thickness, the current flow is one-way or alternating.

 Pure tungsten welding needle :
 
This type of needle in the composition contains up to 99.5% tungsten. The advantage of this type of needle is that it is cheaper than all other types of needles, but is also most prone to wear. When heated at high temperatures, the needle is prone to wear. Suitable for welding aluminum and magnesium with alternating current. Less use with one-way flow.
 
Solder tungsten welding needle with 2% thorium
 
This type of needle contains at least 97.3% tungsten and about 1.7% to 2.2% thorium. They are most commonly used in today's Tig needles for ease of use as well as longevity.
 
Welding needles with thorium components help increase the electromagnetic emission of the electrodes, which makes it easier to use arc welding. Also, using this needle will give you cleaner welds.
 
When thin aluminum welds or welds are less than 6mm in thickness, 2% thorium electrodes are only suitable for direct current but they are good for direct current on carbon steel Stainless, nickel or titanium welding.
 
Note: Thorium is radioactive. So in welding process, it should follow the manufacturer's recommended guidelines.
 
 Welding Needle is alloy with Ceri
 
This solder contains at least 97.3% tungsten and from 1.8% to 2.2% Cerium. With low arc current, this electrode is suitable for both DC and DC circuits. Ceri's electrodes are suitable for welding pipes, thin or curved metal plates on small parts, which requires subtlety. In addition, it can be a good substitute for thorium alloys due to their good applicability to carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel steel and titanium.
 
Alloy welding Needle 1.5% Lanthan
 
This solder contains at least 97.8% tungsten and from 1.3% to 1.7% Lanthan or Lanthan oxide with good arc . It can work well with DC and AC. To pure tungsten electrodes, the lanthanium-containing electrode is capable of withstanding a 50% increase in the load current.
 
Electrode with zirconium alloy (ZrO2)
 
This electrode contains a minimum of 99.1% tungsten and 0.15% to 0.4% Zirconium with excellent arc current stability and tungsten contamination. It is suitable for welding with direct current.
